Psychotherapy and Counselling

The person-centred approach, developed by Carl Rogers, forms the core of my work as a counsellor. Rogers believed in people’s inherent capacity for growth and healing, emphasising the importance of a safe, non-judgmental environment for clients to fully explore their feelings and experiences.

This approach focuses on empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity from the therapist, creating a trusting space for clients to connect with their inner strengths.

Person-centred therapy believes clients are experts in their own lives. This approach respects each person’s autonomy, encouraging self-awareness and personal insights to overcome challenges.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting

Drawing on the concept of “where we look affects how we feel”, this science-backed approach can be used to address a wide variety of symptoms that might be causing you emotional, mental or physical distress.

By releasing trauma that’s ‘stuck’ in your body, I’ll use the highly effective technique of Brainspotting®—a powerful approach rooted in EMDR—to help you process and heal from painful or difficult experiences.

Brainspotting® is based on the profound attunement of the therapist with the patient. Originally developed from EMDR, it offers a focused way to process trauma and regulate the nervous system, helping you shift from anxiety to calm when feeling triggered or stressed. This can be a fantastic tool for day-to-day life.

Brainspotting provides a neurobiological tool, within the therapeutic relationship, to locate, process, and release experiences and symptoms that are often beyond the reach of the conscious mind and traditional talk therapy.

Compassionate Inquiry

Developed by Dr. Gabor Maté, Compassionate Inquiry® is an incredible tool that lets us ‘go deeper’ – so we can uncover the unconscious patterns, stories, and behaviours that may be holding you back and negatively impacting your life.

Through Compassionate Inquiry®, we can start to identify the hidden forces that are keeping you stuck, allowing you to break free and live the authentic, meaningful life you desire.

The purpose of the Compassionate Inquiry is to drill down to the core stories people tell themselves – to get them to see what story they are telling themselves unconsciously; what those beliefs are, where they came from; and guide them to the possibility of letting go of those stories, or letting go of the hold those stories have on them …that’s what Compassionate Inquiry is.

Reiki

Reiki is a gentle energy-based practice that supports balance and healing in the body, mind, and nervous system. Through light touch or simply working in your energy field, Reiki helps calm the stress response and invite a sense of safety and relaxation.

When combined with Brainspotting, Reiki can deepen the healing process. While Brainspotting helps the brain process unresolved trauma, Reiki soothes the body and nervous system, creating a safe container for release.

This integrative approach can reduce anxiety, ease tension, and support emotional clarity. Whether hands-on or hands-off, Reiki offers a calming, supportive presence that allows the body to reset and the mind to heal more fully.

Somatic Experiencing

This alternative therapy is based on the principle that trauma becomes trapped in our bodies. Through somatic experiencing techniques, we can work on releasing this stress and increasing your awareness of its impact on the body, using techniques such as mindfulness.

One key area that somatic experiencing focuses on is emotional dysregulation which can manifest in the body. Together, we’ll develop techniques that help you regulate and calm your nervous system.

Somatic experiencing can assist with a wide range of trauma, including physical trauma such as domestic violence or sexual assault.

Somatic Experiencing
Parts Work (Internal Family Systems)

Parts Work (Internal Family Systems)

Parts work is based on the principle that we all contain multiple personalities or ‘parts’ that have conflicting behaviours, needs, and drives. By getting curious about these parts, mindfully observing them, and resolving the inner conflicts between them, we can start to heal our relationship with self.

I use the internal family systems (IFS) model to explore the various subpersonalities, such as the inner child, judge and other parts, that often develop in response to trauma and lead to particular habits and patterns.

We’ll also focus on your body’s primitive survival responses, such as fight, flight and freeze, which affect the brain when impacted by trauma.

In general, weekly sessions work best for most people. However, it’s important we create a schedule that works for you. Together, we’ll find an approach that fits your needs and lifestyle.

Each session runs between 50 and 60 minutes. We’ll always go at a pace that feels comfortable for you and finish at a natural endpoint, taking care not to cram too much into a single session.

As therapy is highly individual, there’s no ‘magic number’ of sessions or set length of time. You may wish to continue for a few months or a few years. The choice is entirely yours, based on your personal situation, your connection with me, and what you’d like to get out of therapy.

We’ll start by discussing what you’re hoping to achieve from our sessions. As we progress, we’ll regularly take the time to review how things are going and look at whether there’s anything you’d like to change moving forward.

I believe it’s important to celebrate how far you’ve come, as well as to review how your needs might have evolved over the course of our sessions.

If you reach a point where you feel ready to end therapy, you may want to have a couple of final sessions so we can come to a natural close.

It’s completely fine and normal to take a break from therapy – whether that’s a few months or even a number of years – and then ‘pick it back up’ again. This can be for all sorts of reasons, such as experiencing a triggering life event or feeling like you’re ready to go deeper.

This awareness is a positive sign. Whenever you’re ready to return to therapy, I’ll be here to support you in the way you need.
